It’s amazing how someone’s views on equality can come out in one simple sentence
I’m glad people are able to see the power in the difference regarding how these men speak about their wives. My husband and I are total equals in every aspect of our relationship, and I find these subtle implications of (basically) ownership so troubling. I have so much respect for men (and women) who acknowledge their partners as individuals - separate from themselves - and I lose so much respect for the people who refuse to see the people they’re with outside of how it relates to themselves.

This may or may not be happening right now.
Matt and I watched Spirited Away tonight. I find it to be Miyazaki’s most bittersweet story, and I always forget how much it makes me cry until I’m halfway through it explaining every scene to my very patient partner.
It’s so perfect. If you haven’t watched it in a while, you should revisit it and fall in love again.

I got a veritable gaggle of people into the Abhorsen series during high school and middle school. It is, by far, my favorite young adult series/book/etc. to this day. (In fact, I convinced my best friend to start reading it just a couple months ago, and she’s 25. lol)

This was basically the basis of Seef’s and my eternal sisterhood. Hello, childhood. Hello, friendship.
“I find myself getting attached to several of the characters, nothing too serious, however, Narfi was different. I first met him and felt so bad for him. His story was really depressing for me, I found myself leaving bread on his table for him to eat and I’d pretend that we’d discuss how our days are going. Later in another one of my games, when I found out I had to kill him for a Dark Brotherhood quest, I was heartbroken. I couldn’t bring myself to do it. After 10 minutes of what was almost sobbing, I killed him in what I thought was the most peaceful way, then I released his body into the river where his sister laid rest.”
This made me really sad, as well. I didn’t spend any time with him, but when I found out he was a contract I had a very distinct “nooooooooooo whyyy?” response.
